Information Blocking – Faster Release of Patient Care Information and Test Results.

Beginning April 5th, 2021, all patient care information including treatment notes, lab results, pathology, and test results will be available to patients in the Patient Portal as soon as they are posted. Information Blocking is a mandate of the 21^st Century Cures Act designed to provide quicker access to treatment information to patients and promote improved collaboration between patients and their care team.

Previously, patients had access to personal health information including lab reports or tests results in the portal. With the Cures Act, additional useful health information will be available to patients more quickly in their Patient Portal account including:

• Consultation notes
• Discharge summary notes
• History & physician notes
• Imaging notes
• Laboratory reports
• Pathology reports
• Procedure notes
• Progress notes

We believe these changes will empower our patients in a number of ways including greater access to your health information, less delay in receiving information, more options for electronic platforms that can receive this information, and stronger more trusting relationships with providers.

In some instances, patients may receive lab and testing results before providers and clinical team members have had the opportunity to review them. For questions or concerns, patients should contact their provider to discuss.
